I normally used to play with different torque settings on the action screws, I have been told that different settings between the front & rear screws can also make a difference. Since I have had my FWB I have not done this so much. The FWB has a tuning device in the stock under the barrel. The device consists of a block with a rubber "O" ring which contacts the barrel, tuning is achieved by sliding the block assy forward or back along the channel in the stock until the best group is acheived, this is best done in a bench vice rig so as to eliminate the human factor. I'm interested that you think that measuring the weight of your cartriges may help with consistancy, as is eluded to, the powder is but one component which will effect the weight of the cartrige, consider priming, cases, lubricant, projectiles etc. One thing I used to do when I used to shoot with Lapua & SK ammo was to measure the rim thickness for consistancy. A variation in rim thicknes will cause a variation in head space of the closed action thus a detrimental effect on accuracy. I found at the time that the rim thickness could vary as much as 0.010" and I would sort the cartridges into like thicknesses and keep them in their various groups when shooting. I still have my gauge and recently conducted an experiment on some Ely amo of various dates of manufacture (all since they have given the test velocity) and was pleasantly surprised to find that there was very little variation, 0.001" to 0.002" centered arround 0.035" if my memory serves me right cheers

2 rounds in 15,000?????? aint too bad, At least they didn't leave the barrel and cause you to loose 10.1 points. Please don't take this as a criticism but when you've shot that many rounds of another brand and grade without fault then you will be better qualified to comment. BTW saw VW had shot 100.10 in practice the other night at the club, the target is pinned up on the notice board, he also shot another a few years ago, The target is framed and hanging in the club as inspiration for others, all with Ely Match. I have used SK and Lapua (both made in the same German factory at that time I beleive), but both have changed their specs since and found I that I had to ensure that the rifle was cleaned with a dry rag to get rid of the soot after each days shooting, which if left would harden between uses and effect the acuracy and was much more difficult to clean out. There are lots of manufacturers out there and one other brand which may be available south of CHCH is fiocci, Lyndsay Smith might be able to point you in the right direction. RWS is another that was supplied by TSNZ for a while and there may still be some stocks about, check with Potts. There was a company, Belmont ammunition I think, in Wanganui (no H), that sold Lapua where I have bought Lapua Master but as I said the specs have changed. Apart from one round having the problem as you discribed above and another splitting around the rim(for which I got a ten at 50m & a big fright), I have had very few problems with Ely in the 14 years I have been shooting smallbore. I shoot around 4 to 5,000 rounds per year. In the last three years I have overloaded, crossfired and pulled more shots than I care to remember, put into perspective, 2 outa 15,000 aint too bad in my book. Be interesting to know what problems others have had with other brands etc. Choice of champions? My confidence has not been deminished by my experiences and a quick look at the Ely web sight will back up their claims albeit with 10x. Well thats my 2 penneys worth and I say again this is not meant as a criticism, just an opinion. Cheers Grumpy B

In suport of Ely, I just found this on their web sight A medal winning season for ELEY, winnng 45 World Cup medals 22 Jun 2009 ELEY has once again confirmed its status as the choice of champions after picking up a staggering 45 medals at the four stages of the 2009 ISSF World Cup Competition, with its premier cartridge Tenex dominating the podiums. The medal haul included all 12 Prone medals - a repeat of 2007, which is testament to the consistent accuracy of ELEY Tenex at 50m. With some fantastic performances and high scores posted with “deep tens” in the 10 shot finals, the renowned red box Tenex was the trusted brand by the World’s best Prone shooters once again this year. With continuous improvements and investment in manufacturing systems, ELEY is driving up the accuracy threshold to produce technically superior ammunition, which is delivering medal winning performances as these results show: 45 2009 ISSF World Cup Medals 12/12 Prone Medals 16 Gold Medals 86% of Rifle Medals 14 Pistol Medals including 4 Rapid Fire Take a look for your self here http://www.eley.co.uk/news/news-articles...cup-medals.aspxCheers, Grumpy
