Hello everyone,
the last six months I shot with my Anschutz 9003 Air with an offset/overhang on left of the line of sight of about 1,00 cm.
The results of this adaptation are beginning to be positive, I improved in stability and accuracy .

There is some shooter that tried to overhang the line of sight in prone position?

I believe that this may limit the angle of the rifle to the left and the negative consequences of the canting.

I would like to hear your own opinion about this solution.

bye

Hey Max,
Take a look at the attached picture, is that what you are talking about?
Ive been using the setup for a couple of years now and had instant success - I will explain :-
My previous rifle was an Anschuts 1413 barrel & action set in a locally NZ made Aluminium stock and the butt was bent offseting the actual butt plate away from the shooter from the centerline by about 40 milimetres, I shot with that rifle for a number of years and got used to the offset and found it very comfortable because I was able to get my sighting eye behind the sights properly. Then I upgraded to my FWB and struggled with it because I couldn't get enough adjustment out of the cheek rest to allow me to get my shooting eye behind the rear sight properly without canting (leaning) the rifle over towards me wich I found difficult to control. Then I discovered the side shifting sight riser blocks which allowed me to move the sights over to my eye instead of having to lean the rifle - presto! problems solved - well almost, have to work on the shooter now.
In answer to your question yes I do it along with a number of other shooters that I know.
OOPS, just look at that dirty bloop yep thats lumps of powder residue you can see sitting down there, how naughty of me I haven't cleaned it for some time but still seems to shoot ok when it gets warmed up!!!!! lol

Yes dear Grumpy,
I am using the same setup on my Air-9003 and I do most of the available lateral displacement, and I eased the tensions and pressures of the head on stock (in 4 months I have improved by 15 points ).
I want to apply this same setup on the 1913 to prone position.
I'll try when it is over the period of the competitions.
I believe that the head of the shooter remains straighter and with less torsion the neck on right..... may be an advantage to tilt less the rifle.
You had an improvement and I'm happy for you.....

Thank you

Massimo

Grumpy,
Remember...frequently check the tightness of the screws of lateral displacement, often become loose.

In your extension is no lumps of powder residue but the dandruff of your hair.... lol.... hihihi

Ahh, I havent seen the offset before. I am making a few changes to things to start the new indoor season. One thing I have been meaning to do is get some risers to lift the sights up and make things a bit more comfortable.

I liked the idea of the offset, I am not sure if it will benefit me but there is no harm in trying. I am 6'2" with a big head so it seems my contortions are just a little bit more then smaller folks. I have had neck problems in the past so anything I can do to keep a more natural position for the head is better for me.

I went down to the mill for a couple of hours and threw these together. The offset is about 15mm and raises the sight by 10mm. All a bit arbitrary but hard to know where to start. I thought the riser should be ~10-12.

They are a bit rough on looks right now, if they work out I will clean them up, I like how yours has the large bevelled edge, I might have to incorporate that smile

Oh what a shame, it would be great to have access to a nice machining center.

I have a large lathe and mill at home, it's not cnc but does have the DRO's which save a lot of time. Great to use any time, its just the power bills when you have to rent three lines for the three phases.

MetalnWood,
bravo....good work.
You could do your overhang with varying thicknesses.

http://www.centra-visier.de/abatoncms/pp...indexFrame.html

at page 42-43.....you could tray to copy some idea from the catalogue CENTER MEC....
look:
CENTRA Block Club
sight-raiser 10-22 mm.
offset up to 4 mm.
retractable 25 mm.

Thanks Massimo, I have seen that one, in fact in a fit of laziness I thought about buying it! I had just finished a long telescope project and couldn't be bothered going back to the workshop just yet.

I got over the laziness and saved a bit of money. If it's not right I think I will make an adjustable one next to save myself making a third.
