Grumpy,
maybe you have a full of lead chambre ?

Which cartridge you are using? feel you little resistance when you push inside?

take a Black & Decker and use a drill bit of .25! lol

Mybe you have a chambre of cartrige too narrow or too wide... too wide

narrow.... seize

too wide....perhaps shootig the cartridge case deformed and expands and remains seized.

test to measure the cartridge case before and after the shot.

Boy buy Anschutz !!!!!

Grumpy,
try to remove the dirt inside the two slots for the extractor and retainer cartridge beside the entrance of the chamber,.... and clean with solvent and oil the extractor and cartridge retainer on the face of bolt.
Perhaps the cartridge retainer is too hard?

P.S.
a gunner said me ..........
never put oil on fire pin
but scrape lead of a lead pencil with cutter
and sprinkle the pin with grafite powder that thus not created sludge.
I not oil the pin from 20 years, also because many years ago I put oil often in the bolt and it has happened to me to receive an incandescent oil sketch in the skillful eye

good luck

Thanks Max, I rather think it is just due to the tightnes of the lead into the rifling from the chamber because when I do manage to extract the cartrige there is very prominant engraving of the rifling right up the length of the projectile and is the same for other FWBs.
I have a 1413 Anschutz and the FWB seems to shoot better. It sometimes has the same problem but it is much older and has had the chamber renewed by a reputable gunsmith. (the barrel is now about 30mm shorter because of that now)
I was once told that instead of using oil on the trigger assembly, use graphite powder for the same reasons you give above and it would also last better and make it lighter and more consistant.

Ciao Grumpy,

Maybe it is time to change that old already modified barrel. You have to replace a barrel reliable!
if you are in competition and something went wrong ... you get angry and lose concentration

After a long time I talk about return on misfires....

Three weeks ago in Milan during the Italian Championships, Anschutz was present with a stand to sell spare parts and maintenance ( my 1913 had a misfired shots every 100/150 ) and I did replace the spring...the old spring seemed ok but it was not true
I shot 300/400 shots and did not happen.... now no problem..

Remember to frequently clean the hole on the head of bolt where the firing pin cames out.
Clean it with solvent and gone through a cotton thread to remove solvent and sludge and then polished the firing pin.

I beg your pardon if I made a mistake in translation .... and I apologize to the Forum.

Maybe you have forgotten I am Italian and not English-speaking.

Or you want me to answer you in the Italian manner ???....and you might regret later...
And I have better things to do than respond to you

Max, I apologise if you think I am being rude.

The first person to start the thread (Smallbore) spelt it that way and yesterday was the first time I noticed it.

In english, it is a pun. A "play on words". It is when a phrase might have two meanings but they sound the same. "Misfires" is probably the correct spelling, but Miss Fires could refer to a young lady (usually unmarried) whose last name is "Fires".

I was a poor joke.

I was also puzzled about what Danny said but then it became clear ... and I thought it were your own language
Ok Tenpointnine...no problem...I had mistakenly understand in other ways.
Also in Italy we play on words and double meanings...when the speech goes live with friends playing on the double meaning...sometimes we go heavy ...but face to face one understands that it's a trivial joke...

accident closed

Take care
