Hey Wheels, I looked at the auction and see that the guy didn't know how old it was. Heres a tip (if you didn't already know), on the barrel just forward of the action by the proof mark will be a date stamp, on the earlier rifles it will be in numbers and on the later rifles it will be in letters (A=0), depicting the last two numbers of the year. That is of course assuming that the original barrel is fitted.
Anyway, congratulations on your purchase, those earlier rifles can shoot very well indeed. The match 54 action is a strong well proven action which was used by Anschutz in some of their centre fire rifles up to .222 cal.
It seems TM is doing well out of the forum members whistle

The reputation of the Match 54 is the main reason for buying this one. I've noticed many shooters buying these purely for the barrel & action to fit into a custom stock.
That's why I'm very surprised it went for that price.
I dunno, maybe it's cos the indoor season is over and most have hung up their gear and shifted focus until next year.

You could try putting a saddle ring on it and call it a cowboy rifle lol

Haha! Aussiesun. Firstly, my commiserations about the rugby test on Sat. (hehe)
If I'd been bidding on your behalf I'd have been in a real dillema and the price may have skyrocketed.
I got it for $1370. I reckon I got a great deal there.

It would appear so. I reckon I could get the rear sights in there too, 'cos it doesn't look as though the rifle would fit in the case with them on.

What sort of parts are you talking about?
The only real duplicates there to my current kit would be the glove and ammo blocks.
I'll be needing everything else.

I'm glad you said "hehe" at the end of that. Otherwise I would have felt obliged to indulge in some trans-Tasman banter. wink

Er... the barrel, action & sights were the primary attraction for me entering the auction.

Nice try buddy. Talk to Glen (Environs), he may know of one.

Thanks Shoota.
Yeah, my initial hopes had been for a "new" rifle but the present economic climate and work situation meant that I could be waiting a looong time.
So when the much touted Match 54 showed up I thought I'd better pursue it as a good alternative.
At least I'll have the summer season to forge a relationship with it.

New rifles are nice, but once you get a good barrel you can always make the stock fit you with a rasp, body filler, and a bit of wood if required.

Enjoy your new gun.

Thanks Westy, I plan to enjoy it a little on Saturday and if I get time I may even bench it.
