RANGE OPERATION MANUAL – (MINIMUM RECOMMENDATIONS)

There is one shooting range in the building and is used for____yds .22 rimfire shooting, there are_____shooting mounds.
The only permitted ammunition to be used on this range is .22 or 5.6mm.

SHOOTING PROCEDURES:-
Shooting may only be carried out under the control of a Designated Range Officer. There shall be at least one person present on the range while shooting is in progress. The final closing of the action must be at shoulder. All shooting clubs that use this range may vary there shooting programme to suit their circumstances but must at all times use safety procedure set down by this manual and the ____________________club.
RED WARNING LIGHTS:-
Shall operate in the following manner; light must be set in a position visible to competitors and shall remain on until instructions given. There should also be a complementary red light situated outside of entry door that leads to the range that when range light is off the complementary light turns on. Door to range should be closed from inside while shooting in progress. The range officer shall have control at all times.
RANGE MAINTENANCE:-
A maintenance programme shall be followed by the users of the range and social room at all times.
1. Rubbish removed weekly.
2. All empty ammunition boxes checked for love rounds before placing in bins.
3. Kitchen, marking room benches and WC cleaned thoroughly weekly.
4. Floors to all areas washed and / or vacuumed weekly.
NON SHOOTING CLUB USE:-
No person may enter shooting range area while the organization has tenure. This is to ensure minimum exposure, to possible lead dust.
MULTI USE VENUES:-
Mounds to be on PVC or similar material to act as residue catcher to be rolled up after participation. Bullet stop / catchers to be in an area able to be secured. Floors washed after activities and before any other sporting events take place.
It would be preferable those venues that have both range and social areas that can be used as a single venue cease this practice. Extreme care to be taken in all aspects of bullet traps that residue is enshrined in area enclosed from public access. Only those members wearing protective equipment should have access.
RANGE VENTILATION:-
It is encouraged by TSNZ that all ranges be fitted with extraction fans as soon as possible. Fans mounted as close as possible to target area with vents in position behind competitors to allow constant airflow. This fan should be in operation at all times during use of range.
TARGET CHANGING:-
Care must be taken when access to changing area for target distribution and collection. Walkway clear of all obstructions and wet cleaned regularly. Housekeeping is of the utmost importance.
