"Smallbore.co.nz Open Invitational Match 2009"

(last competition of the 2009 season)

Date: Cards need to be in no later than 25th September 2009 (P O Box 327, Rangiora 7440, New Zealand)

DOWNLOAD THE PDF for YOUR CLUB NOTICE BOARD

This will be Smallbore Rifle Target Shooting Talk 1st Postal Shoot we will try and get some kinda cup or something we can get ya name on and pass around for years to come! (open to ideas) please also note this match has no connection to Target Shooting New Zealand.

Entry Fee: $10 each

Prizes all fees will go into prize money pool less admin fees (stickers, postal stamps and 1st place trophy if we have sufficient entries)

1st 50%
2nd 30%
3nd 20%

Competition: Two Single Cards

Rules:

1) TSNZ Rules apply
2) Association markers mark and score the cards using TSNZ rules as a guide & then send in cards for verification.
3) Must be shot at club range or with range officer.
4) All ties decided by Count Back System
5) Match committee's (Mods) decision final in all matters
6) Must be a registered member of Smallbore Rifle Target Shooting Talk www.smallbore.co.nz (free)

Handicaps:

Handicap System for 2 card competition.

Last for official card scores

Add scores together excluding dot count
Divide by 4
If the result is not a whole number then make up to next whole number.
Add to each of the 2 competition card.
Add the results (i.e. score plus handicap) from both cards to get the competition score.

Count-back for tie break.

For count back purposes the stickers sent out should have the number 1 & number 2 on them and should be shot in that order as that is how the count back will be done but in reverse order i.e. highest last card in order of score then dots then tens, if needed count back goes back to first card. If scores cannot be separated then placed equal and share the prize.
e.g.

If 197.15 with shooter1 = 100.8 & 97.7 & shooter 2 = 100.7 & 97.8 then shooter 2 wins.

However if shooter 1 = 100.8 & 97.7 shooter 2 = 100.8 & 97.7 but shooter 2 has an 8 on the second card then shooter 1 wins

To be fair, because it is a handicap shoot, you would have to include the handicap in each cards total score.

How to enter: Post your Name, Club, Assn and $10 dollars to Smallbore Rifle Target Shooting Talk, P O Box 327, Rangiora 7440, New Zealand (cash only no checks once again YES Cash) we will post sticker to your return address.

NOTE: you need to include your last 4 card scores when you enter and you should also state what the scores were shot in, i.e. club agregate, NDC, or championship!

I think by handicap as we wouldnt have that many across the grades.
Maybe you have to post self handicap by night before your club night. Then submit your score by Fri.
You could have a decressing handicap (Somehow?) to keep pushing us all to better shooting.
Or random handicap issued and you have try and shoot to it. Just some random ideas.

Our club has a handicap system where the last 4 "off the rifle" scores are used to set the handicap in each round, The lowest is dropped and the three remaining are added together, then divided by three, if the result is not a whole number then make that figure up to the next whole number and then that number is subtracted from 100. The difference is added to your next score to a max of 100. dots are ignored.
We use this system for the seasons club handicap (over 16 cards). the resulting scores are added up at the end of the season and the closest to 1600 wins the handicap comp.
Any grade can participate on an equal footing on account of the handicapping. The system rewards consistant and/or slowly improving shooting.

Well how about getting this going!

$10 per entry all fees will go into pool for prize money (less $30 for stickers and postal fees)

1st
2nd
3nd

We need a finish date and a few rules

Lets make it two single cards and use a handicap taken from your last 16 competition shoots taken from your score card or if you have not been in any competition the results from your last 16 club shoots.

You would need to post your unmarked card to us to be checked

How is that sounding so far?

Hi Danny
Can I suggest handicaps need to be submitted with entry prior to shoot.
If you shot over your handicap do you go down by that amount. eg HC of 2.5 you shoot 100.6 end score 98.9?
Because it is handicapped and everyone is in same pool, it is likely that there could be a number of shooteers with the same score, how will you determine winner?
Cheers
Environs

PS Have you checked that it is permissable?

See above post of mine (11/08/09)Environs.
Danny I think the last 4 cards is enough to set the handicap and use that average to find the difference from 100 and the result is the handicap applied to each postal card with a maximum score for each card to be 100, dots excluded except for tie brake,
would suggest that aproved Assn markers mark and score the cards using TSNZ rules as a guide & then send in cards for verification.

Sorry I'm slow. So what happens if you have 3 point handicap & you shoot 99, do you get 98 (because you count back down) or 100 & if a number of shooters end up with 100 (which if you dont count back is highly likly)it on inners?

Isn't that how current postals are scored? May as well keep it the same huh?

Club captains to send in handicaps? ...or not necesary, we're all honest here aren't we?

So you just need to send application out to all registered members?
What about the internationals? We now have several from outside NZ. Do they shoot the same format?

Handicap lets genuine lower graders to equal foot it with the big guns without the need for separate grades

I think Grumpy is advocating H/caps.
...as would I.
I know my daughter and others wouldn't bother if there were no h/caps.

Handicaps are great levelers when applied right and self handicap from last few cards makes it current for the impending competition and then its up to the shooter on the day

What would be the chances of having the format formalised on an A4 poster to distribute to clubs in this next week? Just that I know how slow some can be and they'll need all the time we can give them, lol.

Are you suggesting 20yd targets on 25yd range?
How many would have access to 20yd targets anyway? I don't believe I've seen any at our club or even heard them talked about.

You would shoot what ever target you usually use just like TSNZ postals.

Yes even if 25 yard targets are easier ;-)

We have just updated "you need to include your last 4 card scores when you enter and you should also state what the scores were shot in, i.e. club agregate, NDC, or championship!"
